Full Moon – Wild Success or Agonizing Anxiety

Have you ever noticed that the moon sometimes looks ‘full’ a few days before the calendar says it is full moon day? I’ve noticed it and heard others exclaim with an element of extreme surprise: Look! The moon looks full already! This illustrates my ongoing experience that the ‘effects’ of the full moon typically start 1-2 days before and extend another day after the actual full moon day.

Full Moon Coming – What is my Clue?

When I feel anxious or pissed off that the full moon is approaching, it is a sure sign for me that something was missing from my plan for the cycle. “Why,” I wail, “does it feel so painful? What is wrong? Who did it to me?”

Then I come to understand that no one did it to me, and there is nothing wrong, but the emotional pain is a signal that I am in the middle of a personal learning session. For instance, I’m not ready to make a job change because it was too comfortable to keep the status quo; or I don’t want to let go of my personal concept about how an old boyfriend treated me ten years ago; or I was not ready to change the way I perceived money from what I learned from my parents.

These kind of full moon days can be stressful. I can choose to wallow in the negative complaints or reach for positive solutions. The particular solution may be to take a simple action in the outside world or to dig deep to find the issue that I need to change inside myself. If I am too stuck to do either choice, I can hold on, keep a good attitude, and ride the cycle through the next few days. I know for certain these full moon days will pass along in their proper turn in the cycle: I will get further insights the following week and on through the waning moon and, if needed, I get another chance in a later cycle to discover what I need to learn in different way.

This natural occurrence of cycle is up for ridicule when, in fact, it could be a useful tool. Uncertainty during the days of the full moon means more information is needed about current issues, whether they are internal ones or related to physical projects. Observe closely around the few days of the full moon and get to know your particular brand of reaction. Then, when someone giggles vaguely about the full moon, you can reply with certainty and positive affirmation, “Yes, it is a full moon!” – without revealing your personal journey. A little mystery is not a bad thing.

Cultivate a tone of welcoming for the full moon days. Look forward to it coming along and count the days to its bright climax. Your personal full moon experience represents your sense of growth during the month-long cycle. How you feel at the full moon is a clue to what you have achieved – or not – this cycle.

When I feel elated that it is a full moon, there is no mistaking it. I know I’ve learned something important. I am ready to celebrate, even if it is just a pat on my own back and a shine on my face. After all, who else needs to know?
